Lessons

How It Works

Ever wanted to try your hand at the pottery wheel. Well look no further, Yellow Brick Pottery offers pottery lessons for groups of up to 10 people at a time. Lessons run for 2 hours and include all the tools and clay and instruction needed. Students spin unlimited balls of clay during class time and pick their two best pieces to have fired and glazed by the instructor. Additional pieces can be purchased for $15 per piece at time of lesson. Pieces are typically ready within 3-4 weeks of class. Students will learn the basics of the pottery wheel, if attending the class multiple times, the instructor will be sure to advance your skill set. Students typically are able to create small bowls, mugs, tumblers depending on their own ability.

The Yellow Brick Pottery studio runs from March until December. Up to 10 students can be accommodated during each lesson. More can be accommodated within private parties. Email [email protected] to inquire about private events.

FAQs

Class sizes are limited to 10 people per class.  Classes run for 2 hours and include everything you need to learn how to throw on the wheel.  Students throw unlimited balls of clay during the class time and pick their two best pieces to have glazed and fired by the teacher, additional pieces can be purchased for $15 +HST at the class. Lessons are hosted seasonally in a covered area rain or shine, during the cooler winter months it is suggested to dress for the weather.  Closed toe shoes and an apron to cover clothing is recommended.

Students typically end up making small bowls, tumblers, ramekins, ashtrays, ring dishes.  This is a beginner class and the idea is to learn how to progress into more advance pieces, students who attend multiple classes will be advanced in their skills.  Glaze choices are not offered, student work is glazed the same colour to simplify the process as there are 100's of pieces made each weekend.

Due to the nature of the event and very limited class sizes, lesson bookings are non refundable. Once you book your lesson you are responsible to find an alternative person to attend in your place if you cannot attend.

Dress in comfortable clothing that can get clay on it, although clay washes out of clothing, sometimes the darker clothing can stain.  Bring an apron to cover clothing an a few rags to clean up your hands at the end.  Some rags and buckets of water will be provided at the end of class to wash up with.

All jewelry should be removed and preferably left at home, long hair needs to be tied back for safety reason, and long nails are not your friend when throwing clay.

Closed toe shoes are recommended, warmer clothing in the early spring months is recommended and cooler clothing for the summer months.  The studio is in an insulated shop that is heated by wood, so on cooler days it can be a bit cooler, so dress for the weather.
